While we were waiting for our ride to the airport, I saw these "dolls" on display in one of the rooms off the hotel lobby. They are "Santons" which are traditional hand-painted clay figurines from Provence, which were first made during the French Revolution. There are about 55 different ones that represent typical village characters. Rather than decorating a Christmas tree, most French homes display a nativity scene filled with Santons.
